Belgium Vignette for French Drivers

French drivers who enter Belgium — from Lille and Hauts-de-France, Paris via the Thalys corridor roads, or holiday routes through Wallonia — will need the planned digital vignette for passenger cars from May 2027.

This page summarises what the system means for French-registered vehicles, including short-term options and how compliance will be monitored.

Cross-border travel from France

Wallonia shares a long border with France. Many French motorists cross daily for work, family visits or shopping. The vignette is expected to apply equally to Belgian and foreign plates on covered roads.

Because the system is digital, French drivers register their plate before travel — there is no sticker to collect at the border.

Short-term vignettes for occasional visits

  • 1 day — around €9
  • 10 days — around €12
  • 1 month — around €19 · 2 months — around €30
  • Annual — around €100 (regular cross-border users)

Frequent French entry points

  • Lille → Kortrijk / Gent corridor
  • Charleville-Mézières → Namur / Liège
  • Reims → Brussels via the E411/E42
  • Holiday traffic to the Belgian coast via E40

Enforcement and fines

After a tolerance period until July 2027, driving without a valid vignette may lead to fines from €70 upwards on repeat offences. Checks are planned via ANPR cameras and mobile units reading French plates.
